IKEA by night
IKEA by night started out as an experiment in how to design furniture that is out of balance or in a state that the slightest vibration would result in a total collapse of the furniture. The experiment went through and a series of poses multiple photos were taken.
The concept started out as a world around these two furniture pieces. So by creating a background and atmosphere around the actual furniture piece I find it a lot simpler for the viewer to establish the same relation to the piece as I had when I first came up with the idea. By creating the story of two furniture pieces who recently meet each other one night at an IKEA near you. Their relationship is a fragile and complex love story that could at any moment fall apart.
The story itself is inspired from many peoples’ childhood and how we all thought of what our toys did at night. The same question can be asked for the large IKEA complexes around the world and what the furniture does when we are not there.
Here follows my idea of what happens in that unknown world.
This is a school project for The Royal Institute of Technology and has nothing to do with IKEA except that all the furniture is from IKEA.
